Plot location: ravine cutting through NW-facing slope along Powhite Creek, ca. 0.3 miles SE of jct. Of Powhite Pkwy and Chippenham Pkwy.
Field estimate from topo map: (UTME): 276932 (UTMN): 4155988.
The sampling site is a convex, subxeric slope typical of dissected uplands in the eastern Piedmont Plateau. Vegetation is a medium-age oak forest (Quercus alba, Q. velutina, Q. falcata, Q. coccinea, Q. montana) with several ericaceous shrubs prominent in the shrub and herb layers. This stand has a somewhat surprising species richness for an oak/ heath forest; most of this diversity is contributed by woody species.
